Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving. After all the sales and spending of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a time to celebrate and encourage activities that support charitable giving in your community. Whether that means making a donation, helping a stranger, or just spreading the word, Giving Tuesday is a movement for everyone that wants to give something back.

This Giving Tuesday support the Inner City Health and Wellness Program  through making a meaningful donation,  participating in our site wide food drive for the Edmonton Food Bank and/or give the gift of fitness and purchase a fitness pass or gift certificate for someone else from our Giving Tuesday partner, Anytime Fitness Kingsway- 50% of the cost of your pass will be donated to the Inner City Health and Wellness Program. You can find them on site at the Royal Alex on December 1.

The Inner City Health and Wellness Program is a pilot program offering a compassionate, patient-centred, holistic model of care to inner city patients at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Focused on extending more support and assistance to high risk, socially vulnerable Emergency Department patients living with addictions, mental health issues, acquired brain injuries, unstable housing and/or poverty.

"Our hope is that we can take a system that is currently fragmented and advocate for additional resources that will help our patients make healthier choices and lasting change in their lives." Dr. Kathryn Dong, MD, MSc, FRCP - Director, Inner City Health and Wellness Program

With a specialty clinical arm, research program and educational initiatives, in it's first year, the Addiction Recovery Community Health (ARCH) clinical team, has cared for over 760 unique patients with this innovative, integrated approach. Providing a 'big picture' perspective and a focus on creating the framework for impactful change on the way healthcare can be delivered in our city.

Within this treatment process, the Inner City Health and Wellness Program has been extremely successful in establishing important partnerships with internal and external programs. It is these partnerships that have allowed the ARCH team to provide inner city patients with important connections to other essential services, during and after treatment, so they may continue to move forward in their journey to health and recovery.

“I’ll go as far as saying I believe it saved my life. ‘Cause when I was in the hospital I was fully prepared to go out and do it again, try and commit suicide again. I saw no hope, I saw no future. I didn’t think anybody cared and I didn’t care, you know. But ARCH came along and they kind of proved to me that somebody did care and showed an interest in me, had a vested interest in me getting better. And it worked.”

Much of this work would not be possible without community support, which truly makes a difference to our inner city patients and the services we are able to provide.

Make a donation today to be a part of this movement to provide inner city patients timely access to the comprehensive assessment and treatment services they really need.
