The event will be held virtually via Zoom Webinar.

Through the pandemic, we have been forced to adapt to new methods of care, many embracing virtual platforms for better remote communication, and new technologies that improve our efficiency of care. However, these technologies did not spring up overnight—behind the scenes, teams have been pushing for their development or acquisition for some time now.

Join us as several of Alberta’s top leaders in the healthcare sphere from the Royal Alex, Lois Hole Hospital, and CK Hui Heart Centre discuss some of the latest technologies our sites have acquired—along with those coming soon, or just on the horizon—and how they will improve outcomes for all those who seek care at the Royal Alex’s campus.

We are privileged to be hearing from several healthcare leaders including Dr. Benjamin Tyrrell, Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Cardiac ICU at the CK Hui Heart Centre; Tracee Pratt, Executive Director of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, and Lorna Spitzke, Connect Care Women’s Health Clinical Operation Readiness (CORe) Lead; and Matthew Douma, an Emergency Nurse with the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Tracee Pratt has been proudly serving as Executive Director of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, leading and inspiring teams to provide the type of care and healing for which the hospital is known. Lorna Spitzke RN MN is the Connect Care Women’s Health Clinical Operation Readiness (CORe) Lead and has been instrumental in bringing Connect Care and other operational efficiencies to our site, including the OBIX Perinatal Interface System. Together, Tracee and Lorna will be able to share how the Lois Hole’s new OBIX system works, the issues it solves, and the many people it will help—patients, families, and physicians.

Matthew Douma RN MN ENC(C) CCNC(C) CCN(C) is an Emergency Nurse with the Royal Alexandra Hospital. He is also an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Department of Critical Care Medicine with the University of Alberta, Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Nursing (CJEN) and has previously served as a Clinical Nurse Educator at the Royal Alex. Working in the emergency department for many years as a nurse, researcher, and clinician-scientist, Matthew has led care-advancing research on such recently acquired technologies as the LUCAS chest compression system and has become an expert in resuscitation—including resuscitation technologies and procedures just ahead on the horizon.

Dr. Ben Tyrrell MD FRCPC is an interventional cardiologist, a Partner in the CK Hui’s Multi-Cultural Health Initiative, a Clinical Researcher, a Vital Heart Doctor, and the Director of the CK Hui Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Interventional Fellowship, and Site Education. He has a passion for teaching and passing on his knowledge to his students, residents, and fellows, and is one of the foremost leaders in cardiology in the province, playing a major role in the CK Hui becoming the centre for cardiac care excellence it is known as today.

We hope you'll be able to tune in June 9th to what is sure to be an exciting talk surrounding all kinds of technologies that are new, now, and next in healthcare!
