The Royal Alex provides care to almost one million patients each year.

Since 1995 the Royal Alexandra Hospital has been officially recognized as the number one health infrastructure priority for Alberta, following comprehensive, province-wide needs assessments. The Royal Alex provides care to almost one million patients each year.

Rebuilding the Royal Alexandra Hospital is essential to the health and well-being of Edmontonians and beyond. Patient dignity, privacy, and safety must be the priority.

Built in the 1950s and opened in 1962 the main building in the hospital houses over half of the inpatient beds and only 16% of the rooms are private. Imagine you or someone you love needed to stay in one of these outdated rooms. There is virtually no way to have a private conversation with your healthcare team or spiritual provider, the close quarters of patients mean an increased risk of spreading infections, and dignity is compromised when women and men are required to use a commode with very limited privacy.

Each week more than 575 surgeries are performed at the Royal Alex, making it the busiest surgical site in the province.
