For a fifth consecutive year a group of Edmonton Shoppers Drug Mart locations have chosen to support the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The national, four-week campaign which happens each fall raised over $150 thousand dollars in 2015 for the hospital.

2015 marked the 14th annual Growing Women's Health campaign, formerly named the Tree of Life campaign.

"Tree of Life was launched in 2002 and we believe that the change in name better reflects the fact that each year our Associate-owners personally select a local women's health organization that best resonates with their community's needs." Lisa Gibbs, Director, Community Investment, Shoppers Drug Mart.

This was the fifth year that a group of Edmonton Shoppers Drug Mart locations have chosen to support the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The national, four-week campaign which happens each fall raised over $150 thousand dollars in 2015 for the hospital. At the close of the campaign the team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and the Lois Hole Hospital for Women had the opportunity to say thank you and celebrate the amazing fundraising that was completed on the hospital's behalf.

The campaign provides customers with the opportunity to purchase and personalize a "Growing Women's Health" icon; a leaf, a butterfly, an apple and a bird are all available for purchase at varying donation levels. The icons are prominently displayed on the Growing Women's Health Tree in all participating stores with 100 per cent of the group’s campaign proceeds being donated to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

This year’s funds will be designated to the purchase of two mobile ultrasound units. Over 7,000 babies are born each year at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, a staggering statistic that proves the Labour and Delivery units have become the busiest areas of the hospital and are considered the emergency room for pregnant patients. The portable ultrasound units are used to guide in-the-moment management by confirming the presence or absence of a specific condition and help to ensure the safe arrival of the baby and required care for the mother.

“It is important to have advanced functioning portable ultrasound units in the Labour and Delivery suite for assessment of infant position, placental position, and assessment of infant well-being in addition to supporting the management of multiples deliveries.” stated Executive Director Janie Tyrrell

Mobile ultrasound units will also assist in the detection of potential heart-related issues in babies, and builds upon the care and treatment provided by our team of cardiologists at the CK Hui Heart Centre, through the Maternal Heart Health program.

"The Growing Women's Health campaign offers patients, customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to the organizations that make a difference to women's health in their own communities," said Lisa Gibbs, Director, Community Investment, Shoppers Drug Mart.

It is these personal contributions that are truly making a difference for the patients and staff of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The hospital could not be more grateful for the support received.

Thank you Shoppers Drug Mart!
