Stories of HopeReflecting on Harvest Celebration 2023

Posted on: Oct 05, 2023

On September 16th, 2023, Harvest Celebration returned for its 13th year to raise funds for the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. And what an incredible and inspiring evening it was!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our donors, sponsors, partners, presenters, artists, and guests. It is through your generous support the Lois Hole Hospital for Women continues to raise the bar of excellence in clinical care and research in women’s health across Canada.

Together, we succeeded in raising more than $575,000 in support of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women!

To reminisce or learn more about the event, we invite you to view a special video recap below.

Proceeds from Harvest Celebration 2023 will provide funding for the most urgent needs at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Priorities include advancing the Indigenous Cultural Partnership, a pilot program which seeks to establish a reconciled model of care for Indigenous patients who seek care at the hospital, as well as expanding the Allard Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer (HBOC) Clinic, which provides risk assessment and surveillance for women who are at high risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer.

In a moving video piece, we heard from one of the patients who rely on the expert care at the Allard HBOC Clinic. For women like Susan Harrison, the Allard HBOC Clinic is like a life preserver which can help them through turbulent times. Watch the video below for more on her story.

Funds raised at the Harvest Celebration gala and through generous donations beyond the event could expand the clinic from one day per week to two, essentially doubling the clinic’s capacity, as well as help shorten wait times for access and test results that will shape a patient’s journey. All this means more women like Susan Harrison have the opportunity to grab the life preserver.

Donations are still being accepted for these important causes. If you feel inspired to give, click on the link below.

Harvest Celebration 2023 also highlighted the life and work of the late William K. “Bill” Robbins as Patron of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation, alongside his wife Mary Jo. With Bill’s loved ones in attendance, a touching tribute shone a light on the influence and inspiration he provided across the campus of the Royal Alexandra Hospital campus, including the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

The evening was once again emceed by Carmen Leibel and we were fortunate to be joined by Elder Betty Letendre to bring blessings. Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation President and CEO Sharlene Rutherford spoke about the impact generous donors can make in advancing healthcare, and our Harvest Co-Chairs, Bhupinder and Dr. Saranjeev Lalh & Sherry and Collin Prince, mobilized the audience for continued generosity.

Harvest guests were treated to a delicious meal from The Westin Edmonton, along with various sweets from Duchess Bake Shop, and entertainment from A-List Entertainment throughout the evening, with DJ Harman B closing out the after-party.

We laughed, we cried, we sang, we danced, all while raising money for women’s healthcare. Thank you to everyone who joined in and supported the 13th annual Harvest Celebration!
