Our Hospital, Our StoriesGene Zwozdesky - The loss of a Servant Leader

Posted on: Jan 08, 2019

The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation joins Albertans in mourning the loss of a man who embraced and embodied the term public servant.

Gene Zwozdesky served in the Alberta Legislature during two of our public fundraising campaigns and as Minister of Health and Wellness during the official openings of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and the CK Hui Heart Centre.  We know that Mr. Zwozdesky was proud of these facilities – and the donors who helped make them possible.

A public servant with a demanding and relentless portfolio rife with turbulence, the Honourable Gene Zwozdesky was ever committed, ever polite, and ever resilient.  His consistent and persistent work ethic earned him respect from his colleagues—including his opponents—in the legislature. But it was his service to his community, his commitment to integrity, and his capacity for kindness that endeared him to all.

On behalf of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and its board of directors led by Chair, Brian Tod, QC, our deepest sympathies to Christine Zwozdesky, his children and grandchildren.
