Stories of HopeElevate Aviation: Supporting Women, Supporting Women’s Health

Posted on: Jan 10, 2017

For the third year in a row, Elevate Aviation has helped healthcare for women gain altitude across northern Alberta through their support of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

Every year, Elevate Aviation produces a calendar featuring stunning and glamorous photos of women employed in aviation as pilots, flight attendants, air traffic controllers, and administrative positions, produced by the award-winning Donna Lynn Photography. What began as a light-hearted project has turned into a major fundraiser benefiting the Lois Hole hospital for Women.

Kendra Kincade is the founder and Chair of Elevate Aviation, an organization whose mission is to assist women in the aviation and aerospace sectors. “Women are vastly under-represented in aviation,” explains Kincade. “Elevate Aviation was created to increase gender equality and women’s empowerment.”

Elevate Aviation provides information and advice to women considering a career in aviation. They offer a mentorship program, a bursary program, as well as support and guidance for any woman taking her first steps in the industry.

“We hope that by showing what a terrific career aviation really is, we can encourage more women to enter this male-dominated industry, break down barriers, and change the statistics,” says Kincade.

This year, thanks to calendar sales and an annual fundraising event, Elevate Aviation was able to raise an amazing $26,000 for the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. Elevate Aviation’s funds were again matched by Nav Canada, Canada’s air navigation service provider.

"Nav Canada is dedicated to giving back to the communities it serves," says Diana Kelly, Edmonton General Manager, Edmonton Flight Information Region, Nav Canada. "That’s why we support and match the efforts of our employees as they donate their time, money and energy to their communities. Nav Canada is proud to work with Elevate Aviation to support the important work of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women."

Thank you Elevate Aviation and Nav Canada for your ongoing support of women’s health and women in aviation.  We are proud to be your partner in taking women’s health in our community and our province to new heights.
