The Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBAA) hosted their 14th annual Lois E. Hole Dinner and Lecture and through the generosity of their members, the Association raised $785.00, which was donated to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

On October 22, 2015 the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBAA) hosted their 14th annual Lois E. Hole Dinner and Lecture. Through the generosity of their members, the Association raised $785.00, which was donated to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women during a visit from PSBAA Executive Director Mary Lynne Campbell. During her visit Campbell was thrilled to share the reasons behind her organization’s commitment to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

"The pillars of research, innovation and excellence that serve our Public Schools in Alberta are also the principles the Lois Hole Hospital for Women is built on. We are very proud to continue to support such an important institution through our lecture that shares Lois Hole's name," said Mary Lynne Campbell, Executive Director of the PSBAA.

The gift from the Association will support the purchase of mobile ultrasound technology that will provide the Lois Hole Hospital for Women’s labour and delivery team rapid assessment of the health status of babies and their positioning during difficult deliveries, thereby aiding quick decision-making that is at times necessary in these situations.

Last year, more than 7,000 babies were born at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women ― children that will one day fill up public schools in Alberta.  How perfectly fitting that a donation from the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta provides this technology for a healthy start to their lives!

It was back in 2002 that the PSBAA launched the Lieutenant Governor Lois E. Hole Lecture in Public School Education, with Her Honour Lieutenant Governor Lois Hole as the first lecturer. Taking the lead from Lois Hole herself, the annual lecture communicates an expression of hope for children, for parents, for local communities, and for public school education and our Foundation is so thankful that the funds raised at the dinner are given to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.

This year’s Distinguished Guest was former Premier of Alberta, David Hancock, Q.C. Hancock’s message was one of inclusion and support for all students. He communicated the need for collaborative partnerships in our communities, where teachers, principals and school staff are supported by a vast array of other social services in our community to ensure that they are able help children who need it the most. Hancock’s full message can be found here.

We are so pleased to be receiving support from the educators in our province, and pleased that the strong connection the Association feels to Lois Hole and her ideals inspires the support for the hospital that so proudly carries her name.

Thank you, once more to the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta.  We are most grateful for their ongoing support and fondness for the Lois Hole Hospital for Women and the women and babies it provides care for each day.
