Earlier this year, the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation published a limited-edition history book in commemoration of the hospital's 125th anniversary in 2025 entitled, "The Alex: The 125-Year History of the Royal Alexandra Hospital."

On the morning of Friday, July 4th, author and historian Carolina Jakeway Roemmich had the opportunity to sit down with 880 CHED's Stacey Brotzel to talk about our new history book and how everyone seems to have a connection to the Alex.
Stacey and Carolina discussed how they both have personal ties to the hospital, including Stacey's child being born there and Carolina's father working there; how at one point the maternity hospital of the Royal Alex was responsible for delivering one of every hundred babies born across all of Canada; the many stories such as the tornado of Black Friday, the infamous plane crashing into the top floor of the hospital, and the pivotal role that the Royal Alex's nurses played in both world wars and the polio epidemic; and how the dedication of volunteers and volunteer groups have been so central in bring the Alex to life and supporting the care it provides year after year.
