Recently an announcement by Alberta Health Services was made announcing that the Regional Fertility and Women’s Endocrine Clinic at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women will no longer offer non-insured fertility services – including IVF. These services will now be provided by one of two clinics in the province offering non-insured fertility services (or coordinated out-of-province if needed); and will be supported as required to transition to a clinic of their choice.
In turn, it’s important that we inform our valued donors of this development. We would like to reassure all of our donors, many of whom are patients or families of patients that the Regional Fertility and Women’s Endocrine Clinic will remain open – it is not closing. All publicly-funded healthcare services run through the clinic will remain in operation. However, beginning in February 2018, the clinic will no longer be offering non-insured fertility services.
All donors to the clinic and program have been personally informed of what this will mean for the support they have offered.
We have been reassured by Alberta Health Services that “discontinuing non-insured fertility services at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women will increase space and resources for high risk, pressure areas within the Women’s Health program including cancer screening, diagnostics and treatment related to cancer, the reproductive mental health and bereavement outpatient program, outpatient procedures and high risk pregnancy care” and we wanted to share this statement with our donors.
