"The clinically proven benefits of MOSES 2.0 are clear," said Dr. Howard Evans. "Not only does the technology offer improved efficiency for our surgeons, it also requires patients to be given less anesthesia which shortens both treatment and discharge times. This means we will be able to treat more patients in a shorter period of time and patients across northern Alberta and beyond."
At a total cost of $250,000 the MOSES 2.0 is a holmium laser system that can be used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and kidney stones. The technology fragments stones faster and more efficiently and also provides a decreased likelihood of ureteral stone migration complications.
For patients presenting with large prostates, the benefits of MOSES 2.0 are a significant as well providing a reduction in bleeding, anesthesia use, and length of surgery, truly a win from all sides.
90% of patients treated with the MOSES 2.0 are discharged the same day, and 85% of patients go home without a catheter.
The MOSES 2.0 will lead to MORE patients treated in shorter time periods, LESS anesthesia required for treatment, and SHORTER patient discharge times.
