The Lois Hole Hospital for Women offers comprehensive, high-risk obstetrical and maternal care and provides surgical treatment of ovarian, cervical and other gynecological cancers. We are a Canadian leader in new treatments for urogynecologic and pelvic floor disorders and we are proud to place a special focus on the needs of maturing women. The Lois Hole Hospital also provides clinical-based, innovative research in mental health that is setting new standards in the treatment and care of women with anxiety and depression.
Harvest Celebration 2017 raised the roof for two important causes: the first, the addition of a dedicated outpatient surgical suite resulting in improved wait times and outcomes for upwards of 1,000 patients each year. The second, a new initiative called Pregnancy Pathways, will provide wrap-around care and aims to reduce the number of pregnant and homeless women in our city from 100 to none.
The creation of a dedicated outpatient surgical suite at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women is the next step in the journey toward the highest level of patient-centred care available to women anywhere in the province and beyond. This dedicated procedure space will mean women who have been waiting for surgeries and procedure that are an absolute necessity, but not an emergency will no longer be bumped for cases that are.
The space will mean faster access, expedited care for gynecological cancer procedures, improved access for urogynecology surgeries for women struggling with problems associated with dysfunction of the pelvic floor and bladder, early identification for women suffering from unknown causes, and decreases not only to the outpatient procedure wait list, but also an improvement to the minimally invasive surgery list as outpatient procedures will no longer be required to share their space.
The creation of this dedicated space will improve patient outcomes and experiences, allowing women, our patients, to return to the lives they live with minimal disruption.
Imagine being homeless and pregnant...Pregnancy Pathways is a unique partnership aimed at addressing the unmet housing and support service needs of these women who are also in many cases struggling with addictions and mental health issues. Every year in Edmonton approximately 100 homeless, pregnant and parenting women are in desperate need of housing, health and social supports. Your support of Harvest Celebration will help us reduce this number from 100 to none.
Though there are programs that work with pregnant vulnerable women already in the City of Edmonton, Pregnancy Pathways is different in that it removes one of their most significant barriers, affordable housing while simultaneously providing wrap-around supports that will enhance each woman’s path to greater stability and independence.
Pregnancy Pathways is a collaboration of some 25 organizations in Edmonton from acute health care, addictions, mental health, government and non-profit sectors.
Your support of Harvest Celebration 2017 will mean many of Edmonton's most vulnerable residents have a place to call home, and will be provided the hand up that they need to begin their life as a mother.
