Amanda Twidale had her first child, Grady, five years ago. At her six-week postpartum appointment, the joy of becoming a new mom was clouded with fear; her doctor found abnormal cells. And so began Amanda’s journey with the Lois Hole Hospital for Women.
Even though Amanda lives hours away in Cold Lake, Alberta, the Lois Hole Hospital for Women’s specialized care was available to her— care and surgical treatment that would not have been possible without support from Shoppers Drug Mart.
“Shoppers Drug Mart has touched every corner of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. A second colposcopy screening room, the purchase of mobile ultrasound machines, the addition of the da Vinci robot—the only one of its kind in Western Canada dedicated to women’s health—and so much more have all been made possible thanks to support from the Shoppers Drug Mart team in Alberta,” states Andrew Otway, President and CEO of the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.
The highly specialized care that Amanda received at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, and the technology that aided in her treatment has ensured that Amanda is now cancer free and a mother of not one, but two young boys, something that may never have been possible without support from campaigns like Growing Women’s Health.
The campaign allows Shoppers Drug Mart employees and customers to play an active role within their communities. The Growing Women’s Health campaign has raised more than $32 million dollars over the past 15 years and their goal this year is to raise $3.6 million to help fund local women’s health charities, like the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, and they need your support to do so.
You can show your support by making a donation at one of the 29 locations you will see below. 100% of proceeds will go toward the purchase of surgical ultrasound machines that will make quick and accurate diagnosis in critical situations possible.
Purchase a “leaf” for a loonie, a “butterfly” for $5, an “apple” for $10 and a “bird” for $50. The icons are prominently displayed on the Growing Women’s Health Tree in all participating stores.
