Making Space, June 2005

Construction of the Robbins Pavilion begins with removing the unused Food Services Centre and adjacent Women's Health Program clinics.

Dig We Must, August 2005

Thousands of cubic meters of soil must be removed to make way for what will eventually become the new Women's Hospital day surgery clinics. The concrete wall just below the excavator is the foundation wall of the Food Services Centre (above) - this will also be removed to make way for the new Robbins Pavilion foundations.

The Walls Begin To Rise, October 2005

A tunnel (in white, centre) will eventually connect the Robbins Pavilion to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital on the north side of 111 Avenue. Adjacent to the tunnel (left, middle of photo) the concrete forms for the lower level walls are being erected.

Six Months Later, March 2006

With foundation in place and the days getting longer and warmer, the lower level structure begins to take form. There are two cranes on site - another situated to the south (right of this photo) which is two stories taller than the crane pictured here. Across 111 Avenue (to the left) is an assembly yard where some of the components of the building are assembled.

July, 2006

One of the two, five storey towers is almost framed. Each floor is made of concrete poured into a horizontal form that is supported by a dense network of scaffolding. After the concrete is set the scaffolding is removed. A second tower, running perpendicular to the first, will form the "T" shape as seen in the artists concept drawing above. (Photo 3). These towers will rise above a much wider first and second stories, the roof of which can be seen at the bottom, left of this photo.

July, 2006, part two

The yellow area in this photo corresponds with the lower yellow area in the photo above. This area (which will be the the roof of the Cardiac Services program) will become a rooftop garden that can viewed from the two adjacent towers. The level below Cardiac Services will house the Women's Day Surgery Clinics and the Robbins Learning Centre.

October, 2006 --  First Tower Reaches 7 Stories

This view, looking southwest across 111 Avenue. is of one of the two towers that will reach seven stories when completed.
