The Regional Eye Centre is the major Ophthalmology resource for adults and children in Edmonton and surrounding areas, Northern Alberta, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories and patients across western Canada.
This 40,000 square foot facility provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment of eye problems including emergency care. Although most services are provided on an outpatient basis the Centre also has excellent facilities for inpatient care.
There are approximately 30,000 visits to the Outpatient Eye Department and 7,800 surgical cases per year, with cataract surgery being the most often performed procedure.
Twenty-four Ophthalmologists (eye specialists) along with a staff of about 75 nursing, technical and support personnel provide specialized eye care including cataract and retinal surgeries, squint repair, eyelid and orbital surgeries, corneal transplants, glaucoma diagnosis and treatment, laser treatment and emergency care.
