The Diagnostic Imaging Department is committed to providing quality diagnostic examinations and exemplary patient care along with a focus on education and research. The Diagnostic Imaging Program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital strives to use the latest technology and innovative programs to ensure a high standard of care and availability of services.

Some of the diagnostic imaging services provided at the Royal Alexandra Hospital includes:

The Royal Alexandra Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Program provides approximately 180,000 examinations annually. To meet a growing need for skilled technicians the Program partners with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology to train MRI Technicians - the first such program in Alberta.

The Program participates in the Shared Remote Diagnostic Imaging Program where eight other Alberta Regional Health Authorities use video and communication technology to improve access to diagnostic imaging services for patients outside major urban areas.

Critically ill newborns from northern and central Alberta, Nunavut and parts of British Columbia have access to one of the most advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Units in North America at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The Diagnostic Imaging Program supports the NICU through the use of digital radiography, which replaces the common x-ray with higher quality images for better diagnosis and care management of the hospital's tiniest patients.
